One of my favorite parts about getting a new puppy is the shopping. Getting the collar, leash, the cute toys! It makes it so exciting! Aside from the usual things, I do get asked if there’s other things puppy owners should buy. Here is a list of things I recommend.
- Crate- Plastic crates are my favorite such as the brand Sky Kennel.
- Play Pen- A must have to structure you’re pups life. This helps them be included in the family and have more space, but not be able to get into trouble. My puppies are in the play pen majority of the day.
- Collar/Leash/Tag
- Toys! Various teething toys are great for puppies. I personally like the brand Benebone for a good chew. Chuck it toys. Training toys go to dog sport gear and look at the puppy kit!
- Food- Look at my other post to find out what I recommend.
- Treats- Single ingredient freeze dried treats are my favorite for puppies, even cooked chicken. Stay away from rawhide, beggin strips, and treats similar!
- Velocity Pet Dryer- A must have for a Long Coat Shepherd! It makes life so much easier. I condition puppies to the noise in the litter, but for bathing at home it really does help.
- Nail Grinder/Nail Clippers- For nail clippers I prefer smaller dog ones. For puppies even cat nail clippers work. Dremel brand pet grinder is what I recommend.
- Pet Cot- instead of a bed, try a cot! Beds easily get torn, chewed, peed on, etc. Cots provide a nice bed, but are easily washable and less likely to be chewed!
- Blankets- A nice supply of blankets/towels for crates, car rides, etc.
- Supplies for Socialization Outings- Think puppy diaper bag. Good items to have are dog wipes, small amount of cleaner and paper towels/Lysol wipes, collapsible water bowl, poop bags, a blanket, pee pad, and a bone or chew.
- Shampoo/Conditioner- I like the brand Tropiclean
- Brushes- Rake, slicker, and pin brush.
- Kennel Water Bowl- Puppies love to spill their water. Use a bowl or bucket that attaches to the kennel for water.
- Crate or Seatbelt for Car Rides
- Puzzle games/interactive toys
- A training program set up for your puppy! I offer video chat or in person training, and I can help you find a local trainer in your area as well
- a vet appointment scheduled for within 3 business days of receiving your pup.
